8.45 AM Depart York 
Begin your The North York Moors day trip early by driving to the town of Pickering, which serves as a gateway to the North York Moors National Park.

9:30 AM: Arrive in Pickering
Pickering is a charming market town. Explore the town center, and if you have time, visit the Pickering Castle, a Norman fortress with stunning views.

10:30 AM: North York Moors
Head into the North York Moors National Park. Drive through the picturesque moorlands, taking in the breathtaking scenery, heather-covered hills, and remote landscapes. Keep an eye out for the steam trains of the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, which often run parallel to the road. 

Lunch: Enjoy a Picnic or Visit a Local Pub 
Consider having a picnic amidst the stunning moorland or stopping at a local pub in one of the picturesque villages for a traditional Yorkshire lunch. 

Afternoon: Whitby Exploration 

1:30 PM: Arrive in the coastal town of Whitby
Whitby is famously known for its connection to Bram Stoker’s Dracula and its maritime history.

2.30 PM: Free Roam

Explore Whitby Abbey
The ruins offer a fantastic view of the town and coastline. 

Wander down to Whitby’s picturesque harbour
Take in the fishing boats, and colourful houses, and sample the catch of the day from a seafood vendor or one of the local restaurants. 

Head to Whitby’s beautiful sandy beach
Perfect for a relaxing walk or building sandcastles. If the weather allows, you can even dip your toes in the North Sea. 

Captain Cook Museum 
Visit the Captain Cook Memorial Museum, which is in the house where Captain James Cook lodged as an apprentice. Learn about the renowned explorer’s early life and voyages. 

Whitby Jet Shopping
Explore the quaint streets of Whitby and shop for Whitby Jet, a semi-precious gemstone often used in jewelry. Whitby is famous for its jet, and you’ll find unique pieces in local stores.

5:00 PM: Return to York 
Begin your journey back to York, reminiscing about the beauty and history you’ve experienced in the North York Moors and Whitby.
